Chery South Africa has expanded its partnership with the SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service (AMS) in the Western Cape, by donating vehicles and providing a network for expansion across the province. Group1 has played a key role in extending Chery SA’s partnership with the AMS, building upon the existing support in KwaZulu-Natal.

This collaboration marks a significant step in enhancing healthcare accessibility and emergency response capabilities in the province, showcasing Group1 and Chery’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.

The AMS: A Lifeline For Communities

The SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service Trust (AMS) stands as a beacon of hope for many South Africans. As a non-profit aero-medical rescue organisation, AMS works tirelessly alongside various Provincial Departments of Health to provide critical services.

These services include air ambulance operations, emergency rescue missions, and rural health outreach programmes, all aimed at bridging the healthcare gap between urban and rural areas.

Group1’s Role In Expanding Support

The cornerstone of this expanded support is the official vehicle sponsorship for AMS’s Western Cape operations and the donation of several Chery SUVs, including the newly branded Chery Tiggo 8 Pro.

Group1, through its Chery dealerships in the Western Cape, has facilitated the provision of essential vehicles to be stationed at both the Cape Town and Oudtshoorn bases. This strategic placement ensures that AMS can respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies in the Western Cape area.

Group1 coordinated sponsorship efforts from Chery dealerships in key locations, including Kuils River, Stellenbosch, Knysna, Mossel Bay and George. This network of support strengthens AMS’s presence in various communities, allowing for more comprehensive coverage and faster response times.

A Partnership For Positive Change

At the Western Cape Chery vehicle launch event where the sponsorship was announced, Group1 representatives emphasised that this initiative is their way of giving back to the community. The partnership between Group1 and Chery SA aims to reach even more people in need, demonstrating the power of corporate collaboration in driving social change.

Chief executive of AMS, Farhaad Haffejee expressed his gratitude for the sponsorship: “We are grateful for Chery SA’s generous support and the crucial role they place in our mission. These vehicles form part of the bigger ecosystem by AMS. People see the aircraft and think that is it but there is a whole team and system behind the lifesaving and life-changing work that we do. We will use these vehicles to travel to our other bases for our training teams and get to meetings in and around the province. It works as part of the logistical support to the AMS to allow us to do the work we do.”

How These Vehicles Make All The Difference

These vehicles represent more than just transportation; they are mobile lifelines that will play an integral role in AMS’s ground support and rural health outreach programme. They will support logistical operations, ensuring that medical supplies, equipment, and personnel can be efficiently transported to where needed. The SUVs will also facilitate travel for AMS training teams, enabling them to conduct essential training sessions across the province, building local capacity for emergency response.

The donated vehicles will also enhance AMS’s ability to access areas with limited aircraft accessibility. This is particularly crucial for the rural health outreach programme, where these vehicles will bridge the gap between air and ground operations, ensuring that even the most remote communities can benefit from AMS’s life-saving services.

Looking Ahead: A Healthier, Safer South Africa

Verene Petersen, head of marketing at Chery SA concluded: “We, at Chery SA appreciate the opportunity to aid AMS Western Cape in its efforts to do good, as we place great value on investing in causes that uplift communities in need. Going forward we hope to strengthen this partnership by expanding our support into more areas that require assistance. It’s also good to know that volunteers will be travelling in safety and comfort when conducting their important work.”

The dedication of Group1, Chery SA, and AMS to this cause serves as an inspiring model for corporate nonprofit partnerships. It showcases how, together, we can work towards a healthier, safer future for all South Africans, reaching even more people in need and making a lasting impact on communities throughout the Western Cape and beyond.
