Having an overlander is pretty much where it’s at in South Africa to accommodate our lifestyles, which include both offroad adventures and urban living. The exciting news is that we have heard that Chery is introducing a new all-wheel drive SUV to the Chinese market, and we are wondering – could it make its way to South African shores?
Chery’s offering in South Africa consists of Crossovers and SUVs that are perfect for tarred roads and some offroad, but now their fleet could extend confidently to the mountains and valleys of our beautiful country with the new Jetour Traveller (an SUV brand under Chery Automobile).
The Jetour Traveller was unveiled in China recently and launched on the Chinese car market in May, also featured at the Shanghai Auto Show in July.
Its design may have taken inspiration from the Land Rover Discovery – with its square-cut exterior, large radiator grille and front bumper. The Jetour Traveller, which will most likely be the TJ-1 version if it comes to SA, is luxurious in design and is said to have retractable door handles, high ground clearance, L-shaped daytime running lights, narrow vertical rear lights, and handlebars on the hood.
This 5-door, 5-seater does look like it’s ready for action with some electric colours and stand-out adventure accessories! The engine will depend on the version, but current options include a 1.6T and 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, a 2.0T and 8-speed automatic gearbox or a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine and an electric motor.
If this new Chery is coming to South Africa, we will be the first to know about it. Keep an eye on Group1 Chery’s Facebook page or follow all the latest news on our blog to make sure you don’t miss out on the information if it does!
