There are a couple of things that used to be that are no more. This is simply and effectively demonstrated by the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro.
We all know Chery’s rather underwhelming history when odd models were bought in by an independent dealer, and then the brand sort of faded away. That is over and Chery South Africa is a fully funded and supported professional operation run by the Chinese parent company, with showrooms, workshops and parts suppliers all over South Africa.
The second thing that is no more is that you get what you pay for when you buy a budget car. The Tiggo 4 Pro is a compact SUV, with the base model starting at a budget level of R274 900. So a poky little thing free of features and luxury touches, right? Plastic seats and wind-down windows in the back kind of thing? Nope.
Looks
A picture is worth a thousand words. So look at it. A good-looking car, right?
Size
The Tiggo 4 Pro certainly stretches the concept of the compact SUV. At 4.318m long, 1.831m wide, with a ground clearance of 180mm and a 1939L boot it sits well on the outer limits of the CUV.
Exterior
The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro comes in five trim levels, so the specs below will be model dependent. For example, you could get either 16” or 17” alloy wheels.
There is a power sunroof, roof rails, automatic headlights, follow-me-home headlight function, LED centre high mounted stop light and LED DRL, among other things.
Interior
Yet again model dependent, but look for cruise control, leather steering wheel, 3.5 or 7-inch TFT cluster, front 12V power, USB ports front and rear, aircon, leather seats, Bluetooth handsfree, Apple/Android and intelligent voice control.
Safety
The Tiggo 4 Pro is built on a six-dimensional beam platform, meaning over two-thirds of the frame is high-strength steel, giving you unrivalled crash protection.
Model depend, you also get front airbags, front side and curtain airbags, ISOFIX, ABS and EBD, emergency brake assist, electronic stability, traction control, roll stability, power steering, hill and downhill assist, rear parking guide with a camera, carlock and remote window close.
Engine and gearbox
The Tiggo 4 Pro comes with two engine options. There is a 1.5-L naturally aspirated petrol with 83kW and 138 Nm, and a 1.5-L turbo petrol with 108kW and 210 Nm. Both options come with a manual transmission or CVT.
That warranty
The Chery Tiggo 4 Pro gives you more peace of mind than any other similar model. Aside from the 5-year/60 000 service plan, the 5-year/unlimited km roadside assistance, and the 5-year/150 000km warranty, it also gives you an engine warranty of 1 000 000km/10-years. That’s right, no typo here. One million kilometres.
The proof of the pudding
On paper the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro offers a whole lot at a very good price! But you have to drive it to really get the full experience, so book a test drive today.
