Chery reaches 10,000 cars sold milestone and launched a flagship model

Few car makers can match what Chery SA has achieved in such a short time. Between January and October 2022, Chery SA sold 10,000 cars locally while the global market exceeded 1 million vehicles. To celebrate its birthday and this remarkable achievement, they have launched a fresh-faced Chery Tiggo 8 Pro MAX that will surely turn heads no matter where it goes. Let’s take a closer look at how Chery performed across the world and what the Tiggo 8 Pro MAX has to offer.

What Are The Global Sales Numbers For Chery Cars?

Chery sold 1,026,758 vehicles in just ten months across all its markets in just ten months. Sales included 134,900 Tiggo 7 Pro models and 159,900 Tiggo 8 Pro vehicles. In October alone, it sold 132,828 units; making it the fifth consecutive month with sales exceeding 100,000 units. Chery is doing equally well in other markets such as Brazil, with sales of 29,854 units in the first ten months.

As mentioned earlier, in just 11 months, Chery SA sold its 10,000th vehicle in South Africa which is a significant achievement by anyone’s standards. The company originally entered the market in November 2021 with the Tiggo 4 Pro before releasing additional models such as the larger Tiggo 7 Pro and seven-seater Chery Tiggo 8 Pro. After a decade of working with the Imperial Group, now known as Motus, they left SA in 2018 but have since made a triumphant return.

Chery SA Is Leading From The Front

Chery SA is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Chinese parent company with 74 dealerships in South Africa. Considering the brand’s continued investment in research and development, it’s not surprising they are doing so well. With competitive prices, modern and stylish design and a long list of standard safety and driver-assist features, anyone who has experienced one of their vehicles firsthand always leaves impressed.

According to Tony Liu, the executive deputy GM for Chery SA: “You can measure a brand’s success with many different metrics, but none are more rewarding than the number of units sold. We would not have been able to achieve this massive milestone without the support and hard work of our dealer network. Some of these dealers also celebrate their first year in November, while other dealers have only joined more recently.”

Tony Liu confirmed that Chery SA will continue to add dealers in South Africa while looking at possible expansions in neighbouring countries. Considering the amount of success thus far, the potential for an even bigger market share in Africa is tantalisingly good.

What Is The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro MAX?

Chery celebrates its first birthday with tremendous success and now, Chery SA has added a new flagship model to its impressive line-up; the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro MAX.

The new model will slot in above the 1.6 TGDI Tiggo 8 Pro Executive offering more power, additional safety features and other technologies. It is the perfect embodiment of the Chery value promise!

Chery’s new Tiggo 8 Pro MAX is powered by a next-generation 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine coupled to a 7-speed DCT transmission sending power to the front wheels. The cutting-edge 2.0 TDGI engine takes advantage of many of Chery’s newest, proprietary engine technologies to achieve 187 kW at 5 500 rpm and 390 Nm from 2 000 rpm to 4 000 rpm.

It has a redesigned turbocharger with a small diameter turbine and new fully floating bearing technology which results in a 22% better response time than similar turbochargers. Chery engineers have coined the phrase ‘2.0T +7DCT’ as the “perfect formula for the best possible driving experience”.

The Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) offers all the comfort of a normal automatic gearbox, but with a quicker shift response and better fuel consumption of 7l/100 km in a combined cycle. From a standing start, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro MAX accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 7.3 seconds which is pretty impressive for a car this size.

Chery Tiggo 8 Pro MAX Interior Features, Safety and Driver Technologies

Chery’s new Tiggo 8 Pro MAX model now comes with privacy glass for the rear passengers, thicker insulation on the windscreen and front side windows, and a black leather interior instead of the dark tan in the Executive model.

According to Chery SA, it also gets adaptive cruise control, a panoramic sunroof, 10.25-inch floating infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other exclusive luxury features include the following:

  • wireless mobile phone charging
  • forward collision warning
  • traffic sign recognition
  • emergency braking assistance
  • lane departure warning
  • blind spot monitoring

Celebrating The Success Of Chery SA In Style

In closing, Chery SA has had a fantastic first year in the South African market, with record-breaking sales and happy customers all around. In celebrating this achievement, Chery SA has launched a new flagship model, the Tiggo 8 Pro MAX with many additional features and technologies not found in other vehicles in its class.

The Chery range’s flagship model comes with a seven-year/90,000km service plan instead of the five-year/60,000km plan that is sold with the Tiggo 8 Pro models. In addition, it benefits from the pioneering 10-year/1 million km mechanical warranty as standard; however, this only applies to the first owner. The Tiggo 8 Pro Max is now available for purchase at dealerships for R629,900*.
